Have you ever looked at a cocktail on a cocktail menu and saw Passoa as an ingredient and thought: what is Passoa? What flavour is it? Is it alcoholic?
Yeah, I did too – way back when when my passion for cocktails was growing.
So I looked it up. I still do that regularly to see what new cool flavours I can mix with obscure or niche booze.
ANYWAY, I found Passoa back in the days when I first saw Pornstar Martini’s on cocktail menus and I just had to know what it was and what cocktails i could make with it.
So, what is Passoa? What cocktails can you make with Passoa? Let’s find out!
So, what is Passoa?
Passoa is a Passion fruit Liqueur that’s made in France.
…That’s what makes the Pornstar Martini taste so much like passion fruit (and taste so good)
History of Passoa
Whilst not as well-known as other liqueurs, Passoa isn’t exactly new to the cocktail scene either.
It was created in 1985 by the Remy Cointreau group, launched to the European market in 1986 and went worldwide in 1994.
Who are Remy Cointreau?
Remy Cointreau is a well-esatablished liquor group that primarily produces Cognac, but has also ventured out in other flavoured liqueurs such as Passoa and the more well-known Cointreau orange liqueur.
Or at least, they are now.
The Remy and Cointreau brands we not always joined: they merged together in 1990 and now host an impressive list of liquor under they’re banner:
- Remy Martin Cognac
- Louis XIII Cognac
- Mount Gay Rum
- Cointreau
- METAXA (a greek spirit that’s derived from Muscat wines)
- Bruichladdich Distillery (produces Single Malt Whiskey and Botanical Gin)
- St Remy (a French Brandy)
- The Botanist (Gin)
- Domaine des Hautes Glaces (a French single malt Whiskey)
- Westland (American single malt Whiskey)
…that’s quite an impressive list of booze!
Is Passoa alcoholic?
Yes, Passoa is absolutely alcoholic.
Passoa is a passion fruit liqueur with an alcoholic volume of between 14.9% and 20%.

- Vanilla Vodka 30ml / 1oz.
- Passoa 30ml / 1oz.
- Passionfruit Juice 10ml / 0.3oz.
- Lime Juice 10ml / 0.3oz.
- Half a Passion Fruit and a shot of Prosecco
Recipe
With a Cocktail Shaker:
- Add Ice, Vanilla Vodka, Passoa, Passionfruit Juice, and Lime Juice to your cocktail shaker.
- Shake well.
- Strain into a Cocktail Glass.
- Garnish with Half a Passion Fruit and a shot of Prosecco.
Without:
- Add Ice, Vanilla Vodka, Passoa, Passionfruit Juice, and Lime Juice to a Cocktail Glass.
- Garnish with Half a Passion Fruit and a shot of Prosecco.
