The cocktail remained local to the Cuban region until 1909, when Rear Admiral Lucius W. Johnson, a U.S. Navy medical officer, tasted the drink. He loved it and introduced it to the Army and Navy Club in Washington D.C.
The Daiquiri saw popularity during the 1940s when World War 2 rationing of Whiskey and Gin meant that White Rum was one of the easiest spirits to obtain.
